Private tuition, Year 7-10
Private tuition at this level is about what your child will be able to do in Year 11 — not just what they're doing now.
WHAT PRIVATE TUITION ISA different kind of engagement.
There is a version of junior high tuition that addresses whatever happened in class last week. That is not what private sessions at Foci are for. A student who begins with us in Year 7 or Year 8 is not being remediated — they are being introduced to a way of engaging with language and ideas that will determine how they perform in Years 11 and 12, and beyond.
The Foci junior high curriculum — spanning Discursive Writing, Creative Writing, Contemporary Australian Voices, Advertising and Journalism, and Cosmopolitan Voices — is not a selection of useful topics. It is a sequence with an architecture. Private sessions move through it at depth. A student in Year 8 who has genuinely grappled with the rhetoric of advertising will enter Year 11 with a conceptual vocabulary that most of their peers haven't developed yet.
In a private session, a tutor can locate where a student thinks in approximations and hold them there until precision arrives. That work is slow and specific. It cannot be done in a group. It cannot be rushed. It compounds across a year and, if the relationship is sustained, across several years.

Staff private sessions.
Staff private sessions cover the full breadth of the Foci junior high curriculum, one student at a time. Without a cohort to pace, the tutor can follow a line of thought wherever it leads — returning to a creative draft multiple times over a term, working through the specific logical failures in an argument until the student can identify them without prompting.
The rate reflects the standard staff private arrangement for this year level. Profiles for each tutor available for private enrolment are on Our Team page.
Principal-led sessions.
David and Emma take a small number of junior high private students each year. Parents who choose this arrangement are typically thinking well past the current term — they want a relationship that develops alongside their child, that is still present when Year 11 arrives, and that has built something durable in the years between.
A student who works with David or Emma across Years 7 to 12 is not receiving five years of tutoring. They are receiving five years of the same intellectual relationship, deepening. The reading of what that student needs changes year to year. The standard of thinking held constant does not.
Principal sessions are not available through the standard enrolment process. Availability is limited and considered carefully. The rate is available on enquiry.

What private means, here
There are principles which govern what happens in every private session at Foci Education — regardless of year level or tier. They are not features of the product. They are the conditions under which the product works.
Enrolment, arrangements
Structure
Private tuition at Foci operates on an annual basis, paid in full before the first session. The time slot is confirmed for the academic year. Families who carry a student through multiple year levels find this consistency is part of what makes the arrangement work.
The first conversation
For Principal enrolments at this year level, we begin with a conversation about the student — their school, where they are in the curriculum, and what the family is hoping to build. A trial session is available for families considering Principal enrolment. We discuss the particulars directly.
What families can expect
One session per week, forty weeks structured across the academic calendar. The same tutor, the same time, for the year. No make-up credits for missed sessions — the value of consistency runs in both directions.
Testimonial“Had an absolutely great yet professional experience with Foci Education. My son has improved in the subject of English with greater motivation. Keep up the excellent work team. Highly recommended.”

Years 7 to 10 is where the thinking begins.
Families who arrive at us in Year 11 sometimes ask how they could have prepared earlier. The answer, in most cases, is Year 7. Principal availability for junior high is limited by design. If you are considering this now, the enquiry is worth making.
