Private English tuition, K-6
One student. One tutor. The same arrangement, held to the same standard, for the year.
WHAT PRIVATE TUITION ISA different kind of engagement.
A primary student who reads closely, who can hold an idea long enough to examine it, who knows the difference between a description and an argument — that student is not ahead of the curriculum. They are ahead of the thinking that the curriculum, at its best, is trying to produce.
Private sessions at this level are not remediation. They are not enrichment, in the sense that word usually implies an optional extra. They are the deliberate, early construction of a way of reading and writing that most students only encounter properly in Year 9 or 10. At Foci, we begin earlier — and in a private session, we can begin with far more precision.
The relationship built in Year 3 or Year 4 is not a head start. It is the foundation. Everything we do in junior high and senior high is built on what a student already knows how to do with language. A child who arrives at Year 7 having worked seriously with an English educator for two or three years is not a better student. They are a different kind of student.

Staff private sessions.
Staff private sessions for primary students apply the Foci approach to reading comprehension, written expression, and critical thinking at the pace and depth a single student can absorb. Without the demands of a group, the tutor can follow a student's thinking wherever it goes — pressing on what's imprecise, extending what's already working, and building the habits of attention that make a strong junior high student.

Principal-led sessions.
David and Emma work with a very small number of primary students directly. The families who choose this arrangement understand that the value is not in any single session — it is in the cumulative weight of a relationship held to a high standard, consistently, across years.
A Year 4 student who works with David or Emma until Year 12 does not receive eight years of tutoring. They receive eight years of being held to a standard of thinking that few students encounter at all, let alone that early. The compounding effect of that is not easy to quantify. But the families who have experienced it do not ask us to.
Principal availability at primary level is considered carefully. We do not take every enquiry. The rate is discussed directly.

What private means, here
There are principles which govern what happens in every private session at Foci Education — regardless of year level or tier. They are not features of the product. They are the conditions under which the product works.
Enrolment, arrangements
Structure
Private tuition at Foci is an annual commitment, paid in advance. The session time is held for the full academic year. For primary students, that consistency is particularly important — the relationship only compounds if the arrangement is stable.
The first conversation
Principal enrolments at primary level begin with a direct conversation about the student. We discuss their current reading level, writing habits, school context, and what the family wants to build. A trial session is available. We discuss the details when we speak.
What families can expect
One session per week, the same time, for the year. The same tutor or Principal throughout. Families who maintain this arrangement across multiple years find that the quality of what the student produces changes in ways that are hard to attribute to any single session — and that is the point.
Testimonial“Had an absolutely great yet professional experience with Foci Education. My son has improved in the subject of English with greater motivation. Keep up the excellent work team. Highly recommended.”

The thinking that matters inYear 12 begins much earlier.
If you are considering private tuition for a primary student, we would rather speak with you now. Principal availability at this level is limited. Not artificially — there are genuinely few places, and we hold them carefully. The families already in them rarely leave.
