Private tuition at Foci is not a smaller version of a class. It is a fundamentally different arrangement — one that begins not with a syllabus point, but with a reading of the student. Where they think clearly, where they don't, what they've been taught well and what has been left approximate. A session with any of our educators is built from that.
Across a year, that understanding deepens. The work doesn't reset term to term. What was established in March is still present in October — in the way a student has learned to construct an argument, the texts they return to, the quality of thinking they've been asked to produce. Continuity is part of the product. At Year 11 and 12, the margin between a good student and an exceptional one is rarely about knowledge. It is about what that student can do under pressure, in the room, with limited time and high stakes. The preparation for that is not revision — it is the slow accumulation of rigour across a year.

Staff private sessions.
Staff private sessions apply the full Foci curriculum one-on-one. Each tutor at Foci is selected for subject depth, not just teaching ability.
A private session gives them the space to move at the pace the student demands, to pursue a line of thinking beyond what a group session allows, and to locate the specific gaps that written feedback alone doesn't resolve.
Extension 1 and Extension 2 are available at $220 per hour. Our team page has the full profile of each staff tutor available for private enrolment.
Principal-led sessions.
Sessions led by David or Emma are available to a small number of Year 11–12 students each year. The number is kept low because the work requires it — not because scarcity is a strategy. What happens in a Principal session cannot be replicated at scale.
David and Emma each bring institutional knowledge of how the HSC is assessed — Emma as an active NESA marker, David as an educator who has prepared students for this examination for more than a decade. That knowledge is not taught. It is present.

There are principles which govern what happens in every private session at Foci Education — regardless of year level or tier. They are not features of the product. They are the conditions under which the product works.
Enrolment, arrangements
Structure
Private tuition at Foci operates on an annual enrolment basis. The academic year is booked and paid in full before the first session. Time slots are fixed for the year at confirmation — this protects the consistency of the arrangement for both the student and the tutor.
The first conversation
Principal enrolments begin with a conversation — not a trial, and not a commitment. We discuss the student's current trajectory, what the year requires, and whether the fit is right. A trial session is available for families considering Principal enrolment. We'll discuss the details directly.
What families can expect
One session per week, forty weeks structured across the academic calendar. The same tutor, the same time, for the year. No make-up credits for missed sessions — the value of consistency runs in both directions.
